What characteristics and skills do you look for in people?
I am a big believer in finding the right team to work with that have good work ethics and a mindset that borders on optimistic. It you have a positive outlook, you can always find a solution.
What do you enjoy most about the industry?
The construction industry is full of large and small successes, job satisfaction plays a big part of why I enjoy construction. I also enjoy meeting people and listening to their experiences.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the challenges and problem solving. Every day is different and overcoming challenges using your knowledge and experience can be very rewarding.
How did you get into construction?
I started my career as a trainee site manager at Geoffrey Osborne undertaking their site manager training scheme. This was a great way to get into construction and I have been fortunate with career moves and opportunities throughout my professional career.
Do you have a favourite building?
I don’t have a favourite building, but I am a builder at heart so am drawn towards good architecture that doesn’t pose unnecessary challenges for contractors. Some simple façade treatments with a variety brick detailing can really make a building stand out.
What’s your best career advice?
If you don’t ask, you don’t get! If you work hard and are good at your job opportunities will come your way if you are willing to push for them!
What are your passions outside of work?
I enjoy being outside no matter the weather and love a family walk with the dog across the Ashdown forest. I am a keen golfer and love to keep fit in the gym.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get into what you do?
Put yourself out there and find a way to become visible in the sea of candidates. Only you can create your own future.
