Our Commitment to ESG and Sustainability
At K2CM, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are the golden thread woven through every aspect of our business. This approach enables us to unlock sustainable, value-added opportunities at every stage, reflecting our unwavering commitment to ethical and responsible business practices.
Sustainability is far more than a buzzword at K2CM, it is deeply embedded in our core values and the work we deliver. As construction managers, engineers, planners, architects, and designers, we embrace the daily opportunity to drive meaningful progress toward a sustainable future amidst the challenges of climate change. Guided by our comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan, we strive to create vibrant, resilient, and equitable communities where people live, work, and play.
We take our responsibility to the planet seriously. In delivering projects for our clients, we live and breathe the Five Capitals framework, an approach that ensures our solutions are sustainable and generate lasting benefits for the natural environment and the communities we serve.
Our passion for the environment can be seen across our business operations. We align our business operations to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals which are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.

Environmental
K2CM recognises the environmental impact of its activities and is committed to meeting legal requirements through rigorous measurement, goal setting, and ongoing reporting.
Our Sustainability Framework and policies ensure every part of the business has clear implementation plans. We pursue group-wide initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, aim for net zero, enhance biodiversity, and minimise waste.
As construction and project managers of large-scale sites, we embed sustainability in all new developments. This includes integrating renewable technologies and aligning unit specifications with BREEAM and EPC standards, tailored to occupiers’ needs.
K2CM is proud to be a member of the SME Climate Hub, part of the UN’s Race to Zero campaign, committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Our Journey to Carbon Neutrality by 2028
As part of our Carbon Reduction Plan, we are proud to be on track to become carbon neutral by 2028. We’re committed to driving down emissions across every aspect of our operations, from our offices and the projects we deliver, to the construction sites we manage.
We continuously explore and implement innovative solutions to reduce or eliminate carbon output. Recent initiatives include the launch of our employee electric vehicle scheme, a switch to 100% green energy tariffs, and the introduction of both water-saving technologies and sustainable remediation techniques.
Working closely with our supply chain partners, we’ve introduced the EcoFrog system within our concrete plants. This cutting-edge technology enables us to reclaim and reuse over 2,000 litres of water each day in the concrete production process.
That’s enough water to provide one person with drinking and showering water for 100 days. Even more impressively, after 500+ days of operation, we’ve saved over 1 million litres, a major step forward in reducing industrial water consumption.
We’ve also launched a pioneering remediation programme for pile arisings, focused on repurposing soil during the pre-boring phase of construction.
61,000 tonnes of subsoil have been reused on-site, drastically reducing the need for landfill or replacement materials. This has helped cut 417,373 kg CO?e in transportation emissions alone.
These are just two of the many initiatives driving our sustainability goals forward. As we continue our journey to carbon neutrality, our focus remains on innovation, collaboration, and accountability, to create lasting change across the construction industry.
Social
Employee Wellbeing
People are K2CM’s most valuable asset. We are dedicated to supporting a positive work-life balance through flexible working, maternity and paternity leave, and fostering a culture where every employee feels valued.
From recruitment onward, all employees are governed by our Recruitment and Selection, Equal Opportunities, and Grievance policies, alongside occupational health screenings where relevant.
We offer a broad range of health and wellbeing benefits, including private healthcare, mental health support via The Lighthouse Charity, regular social activities, volunteering opportunities, and employee recognition programs.
Employment and Skills Development:
- Partnering with local schools, colleges, and employment hubs to shape training and ensure vacancies are widely advertised.
- Creating jobs within the communities we serve, encouraging suppliers and contractors to recruit locally.
- Removing barriers to construction industry employment for underrepresented groups, working with the prison service and charities to support care leavers and neurodiverse individuals.
- Proud members of the Armed Forces Covenant, offering employment opportunities to current and former service members.
Social Engagement
K2CM partners with local authorities, employment hubs, and higher education institutions nationwide to support young people entering the workforce and to offer work experience opportunities for pupils and students.
We are committed to sponsoring employees, charities, and community clubs connected to our workforce and the areas where we operate. We also aim to increase employee volunteering in local initiatives.
Currently, we sponsor scholarships at Middlesbrough College, support NAWIC’s Future Leaders programme, and regularly engage with local schools through industry-focused career talks and Lego design challenges.
Charitable Organisations
At K2CM, we are passionate about supporting hyper-local charities and community groups connected to our employees, alongside national charities. We take pride in our efforts and actively encourage employee volunteering.
Recently, we helped The Link Charitable Trust transform a dilapidated ice cream parlour into The Living Room, a welcoming space offering warmth and support to the lonely and homeless. Through a project in that region, we also raised over £17,000 for their summer and Christmas campaigns.
We support our employees’ volunteer work with organisations such as the Samaritans, the Scouts, and HCPT, which helps disabled children on pilgrimages to Lourdes.
Our partnerships extend to national charities like Cancer Research and The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, for which we fundraise through events including coffee mornings and golf days.
Our employees are central to our charitable efforts, and we regularly consult them on which causes to support, including numerous local grassroots sports teams.
Governance
K2CM is committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance, demonstrated by our ISO certifications and other key accreditations, including:
- ISO 14001
- ISO 9001
- ISO 45001
We have established an ESG Working Group to ensure a consistent, group-wide approach to environmental and social issues, including climate-related risks and mitigation. This group also shapes our future strategy for managing these risks and related disclosures.
The Executive Board remains fully engaged with the group’s ESG responsibilities and continues to enhance governance frameworks to meet all relevant legislation and reporting requirements.
