What's the proudest moment of your career?

Meeting HM King Charles during his visit to the SeAH Project.

What do you enjoy most about the Industry?

No two days are the same, and the Industry's ability to adapt and overcome construction issues keeps the job fresh and enjoyable.

How did you get into construction?

From a very young age I have always been fascinated by how things are built and put together, always being chased away from building and demolition sites. But I suppose my real interest started during the early 80’s when I used to labour for my dad on building sites at weekends and summer holidays. Back when you could get away with it!

What motivates you?

Working with an amazing and diverse workforce that is focussed on delivering Construction Projects

What skills and characteristics do you look for in people?

I look for characteristics and skills that are aligned with whatever the project tone dictates at any given point. I also look for 6 Main skills and characteristics in people when forming delivery teams, they are:

People who can come up with Great Ideas – Self-starting and motivated people who look at problems and come up with ideas to solve those problems.
Invention – The type of people who turn those ideas into actions and solutions.
Checks & Balance – People who can pull ideas and solutions apart to make sure they work and achieve original problem.
People who can Rally Support – The best solutions in the world are useless if you don’t have someone to bring the right people together to deliver the solution.
The people who do the do – People who enjoy getting on with the task in hand, turning the solution into reality.
Tenacity – People who can see the job through to completion, aim to finish the job.

Do you have a favourite building?

Nothing that stands out, but I’m constantly amazed by old buildings, cathedrals and castles, I am that construction spotter on Holiday. I would always state the project or building I’m currently working on as my favourite.

Who inspires you?

I can be inspired by anyone who can teach me something or make me look at something in a different light or context.

What are your passions outside of work?

Family, Classic Cars, Rugby, Military Veterans and meeting up with like-minded people.
